MOC (Bone densitometry)

MOC exam booking in Cosenza

MOC (Computerized Bone Mineralometry) or Bone Densitometry, carried out with the DEXA method, the only method recognized as valid for the study of osteoporosis by the WHO (World Health Organization), is performed at the level of the lumbar spine, femur, forearm/ wrist or the entire skeleton (total body). It uses X-rays, in a very low dose, lower than a normal x-ray and infinitely lower than that of a CT scan.

Study of osteoporosis for risk assessment

It is the only test that allows the precise diagnosis of osteoporosis, a serious pathology characterized by a progressive process of demineralization of the skeletal structure and reduced bone mass density with microstructural alteration of the bone tissue. This disease leads to increased bone fragility, with a consequent increase in the risk of fractures. The test evaluates the level of calcium present in the skeletal system.

When performing MOC

The MOC test is performed to detect a possible predisposition to bone demineralization, a prelude to osteoporosis, and to initiate therapies that stop or slow down the disease. It is especially recommended for menopausal women, who are more susceptible to osteoporosis and therefore more at risk of osteoporotic fractures.
Many people may not realize they have osteoporosis until a spontaneous bone fracture occurs. It is therefore advisable to carry out this test also in a preventive manner in women in early menopause, in subjects who have undergone long-term cortisone therapies and for those who have had vertebral collapse.
